We greeted each other

I With the appearance of Angeliera in 1980 Opperman referred to as "a king" & it's a judgment that I still agree. With each beam make Cloete a valuable contribution to our poetry & the plurality of reading. He is the single greatest innovator janny grein since Breytenbach & traces of his influence is to read from bundles since his debut published by other poet, poets like Joan Hambidge, Tom Gouws, Johan Myburgh Hein Viljoen, Lucas Malan, myself, janny grein to just to mention a few. Cloete is a poet included in a holy curiosity about all aspects of humanity & the cosmos, a cosmological poet if one could also say, & aptly is the title of his latest comprehensive bundle also unsaturated, because 86-year-old life there is no decrease in his appetite for knowledge and new experiences, experiences & insights not. The beam title is an allusion to Proverbs 27:20, which reads: "Hell and Abaddon are never satisfied; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. "For the curious reader, there are many keys to Cloete's poems found in Ecclesiastes. An important key to unsaturated can be found in Ideolek in the verse "a minus times a minus" which Cloete wrote: how can I love the inevitable eternal if I denied my saturation of the earth (p. 104) As it gradually clearer seems that Cloete bundles all components of a great & great overall form, something delightful & complex as the Taj Mahal, the theme of saturation & insatiability can successfully throughout his oeuvre followed. Although the erotic a key component in his oeuvre, Cloete him generously on the "strange love" omitted. The closest he came to it, the following poem from Ideolek what was then an indelible janny grein impression on me made: Graaff's pool Sea Point
The visual play in this volume, as in fact Cloete's all a poet. In his pasverskene beam, unsaturated, the visual re forefront of the opening poem about the famous janny grein blind Helen Keller, the last poem ("hope hope, last speak with one voice") in which the eyes shut in a longstanding destination: no predator and no lion lay you there
This is an earlier poem in the collection that stands out for me, "the love of friendship is called" (2011: 127), a title to a verse of Albert Verwey link. Here write Cloete of movable manner about a friendship over a lifetime with a friend, a friendship with homoerotic undertones. janny grein

In Opperman's verse "Ex Libris Ex Libris +" (1979: 124) writes about his friendship with M. Roks in Pietermaritzburg, & refer to the beginning for example, the time he "Herr ROKS redeemed / translators (student) Department of Education. " janny grein The ex librisse which the title refers (& by Opperman also skillfully his early Pty. Ltd. Bring in) is that of M. Roks (designed by Cocky Haen -alreeds a playful-phallic allusion), & that of Opperman themselves by William Jordan is designed. Besides that, the book plate used to indicate property, it often contains an allegory that some of the owner's character, ethos or thematic trying to convey.
In the following section outlines Opperman the estetiserende environment of ROKS, which the homoerotic overtones evident by allusions of all kinds on the "strange love", a feeling that the young Opperman could not answer, but for which he had understanding & Now in retrospect hold if a friendship that was enriching for him as a person & his development as an artist. The flesh is no longer in the game, who survived & very expensive "in spirit and mind the marriage:

The poem is a tribute to a friend by his gekultiveerdheid & belesenheid a traveling companion was the young Opperman, but in a strange way - the allusion to the klassiekgeworde Sirach 44: 1 ("Let us now praise be famous , / and our fathers dat begat us. ") - he with the authors Rabelais, Oscar Wilde, Anatole France, & Byron which he introduced Opperman, a kind of literary father figure.
