Cloch Lighthouse Lighthouses Firth of Clyde River Clyde Maritime Photography Maritime Heritage Scott

Sometimes it's worth going onto the water to get a different perspective , as the picture taken from onboard the Dunoon-Gourock ferry 'Argyll Flyer' on one of her many crossings on the upper Firth of Clyde. Cloch Lighthouse is situated about two miles to the west of Gourock and originally dates back to 18th century , today , although the light still works automatically , the site is now a private residence. Above we see a fantastic caravan park graded on the hill. During WW2 , the lighthouse area was taken over by the Admiralty and utilised for the Clyde Protective Boom to stop German U-Boats pulsayvoy creeping up the firth and causing pulsayvoy mayhem in the relatively safe haven.
